Why Marriages Go Bad (Short Version)
Most couples have about 50 personality conflicts when they marry. At first, these conflicts are manageable but as time goes by and Life happens they become less manageable. Unmanaged, they begin to accumulate and cause communication problems. When the marriage gets almost to the brink of divorce they end up in my office. “We can’t understand it,” they say. “We’re doing the same things we always have but now find that we can’t make our marriage work anymore.” What they mean is that they have not resolved their communication problems as they occurred and are now overwhelmed by the accumulation. The overwhelm is expressed by panic and hopelessness.
The panic is calmed and hope restored by identification of the issues during the first session and getting the couple involved immediately in resolving them. The unique conversational style used is far less expensive and time-consuming than traditional counseling. It is recommended for any marriage that is not as happy as it used to be.
