I’D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO TALK
Dumb, huh, since we all learn how to talk by age two or three. But we don’t in relationships and that’s where it counts the most. If we could talk in relationship there would be few hurts, arguments, separations, or divorces. We wouldn’t play all those crazy games of blowing up, walking out, having affairs to get even and damaging the whole family with a divorce. Talking is not really that hard if you have a professional counselor as referee to let everybody talk and be heard, but having to ask for help hurts our American pride of being self-sufficient. “We can learn to talk as a family without help”. But you haven’t learned because relationships are too complex. You could talk to your dog and he will lick you but you can’t get a kiss when you talk to your wife—and teenagers, forget it! Nobody can talk through problems with a teenager. So we pretend there is no problem and before you know it you are in divorce court and everybody is sad and damaged.
